Ngozi Okonjo IWEALA

Board Chair, Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is Chair of the Board of Gavi, the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation. Since its creation in 2000, Gavi has immunised 580 million children globally and saved 8 million lives. She is also Senior Adviser at Lazard, one of the world’s premier financial advisory and asset management firms. Previously, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala served twice as Nigeria’s Finance Minister, from 2003-2006, 2011-2015, and briefly Foreign Minister, the first woman to hold both positions. She spent a 25-year career at the World Bank as a development economist, rising to the No.2 position of Managing Director, overseeing an $81 billion operational portfolio in Africa, South Asia, Europe and Central Asia. Dr. Okonjo-Iweala has been ranked by Fortune as one of the 50 Greatest World Leaders in 2015, by Forbes as one of the Top 100 Most Powerful Women in the World consecutively for four years, by Time as one of the Top 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2014, and by the UK Guardian as one of the Top 100 Women in the World in 2011. She is the author of numerous articles on finance and development, and several books including Fighting Corruption is Dangerous: The Story Behind the Headlines and Reforming the Unreformable: Lessons from Nigeria, both published by the MIT Press.

Amadou HOTT

Vice-President, Power, Energy, Climate and Green Growth of AfDB

The African Development Bank is pleased to announce the appointment of Amadou Hott as Vice-President, Power, Energy, Climate and Green Growth with effect from 1st November 2016. He will join the Senior Management Team of the Bank. Amadou Hott, Senegalese, is a top-notch management executive who brings along twenty years of experience in the private sector that span structured finance, investment banking, infrastructure investments and development of integrated energy solutions. He was the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Sovereign Wealth Fund of Senegal, where he is spearheading major infrastructure investments, including energy projects and renewable energy. He brings extensive experience on power and energy from his work as Assistant Director, Energy and Resources Group, United Kingdom, where he led and provided integrated energy solutions for clients, ranging from structured financing for power and utilities, oil and gas, metals and mining sectors. As the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Afribridge Capital, an Africa-focused advisory and Investment Company, he advised on power, energy, information, communications and technologies, mining and banking sectors. Hott is experienced in structuring finance for power and energy projects and passionate about solving Africa’s power and energy needs, especially in renewable energy and balanced energy mix. He has led several projects in power including the first solar project in Senegal (30 MW) under construction and to be commissioned in three months and Scaling Solar for 200 MW with the first phase of 100 MW and development of 400-600 MW in negotiation with the National Power Utility of Senegal. As an Investment Banker, he advised on various oil and gas and power projects at the ABN Amro Bank in London and at the Millennium Finance Corporation in Dubai. Hott served as the Chief Executive Officer of the investment-banking subsidiary of United Bank for Africa (UBA) PLC, with presence in 20 African countries. He served as Chairman of AIBD SA, Senegal’s new international airport project. He had worked as Director for Africa for the Millennium Finance Corporation, where he was responsible for project finance transactions covering energy, mining, ICT and banking, etc. in Africa and the Middle East. Hott schooled in France, where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and a Master’s Degree in Financial Markets and Banking Management from Sorbonne University, Paris. In 2012, the World Economic Forum nominated him as a Young Global Leader.

Nkemdilim Uwaje Begho is a seasoned serial entrepreneur who has been in business for close to 10 years. She started her entrepreneurial path in 2008 and has been able to turn her first venture Future Software Resources Ltd. into one of Nigeria’s leading IT Service companies. Futuresoft is focused on providing digital marketing and technology solutions for the scaling African Enterprise, as well as offers E-learning and IT Consultancy services. As one of a few Nigerian women in the industry, Mrs Begho’s successes are founded on a passion for driving innovative thinking, building a globally recognized technology brand and setting trends in the Nigerian Technology space. Respected and recognized as a leader in her industry, Mrs Begho is regularly featured in a myriad of newspaper and magazine publications and is frequently invited to speak about the future of ICT in Africa, the challenges of African entrepreneurs as well as the role of Information Technology for development and change. More recently she has stretched her wings beyond core technology and co-founded 3 thriving tech driven startups - Anne Li Unique Ideas ( - Manufacturing & Fashion), Compare Insurance Nigeria ( - Insurance) and Fucaire Lifestyle Ltd, publishers of ASPIRE Luxury Magazine ( - Luxury Brand Consultancy).

John Tanui

Chief Executive Officer, Konza Technopolis Development Authority

Eng. John Tanui is the Chief Executive Officer of the Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA), which is mandated by the Government of Kenya to implement the Konza Technopolis project. KoTDA, a semi-autonomous government agency tasked with building Kenya’s first smart techno city whose vision is to be a global Hub of technology and innovation. Before joining KoTDA, Eng. Tanui was the Deputy Country CEO and Vice President of Huawei Technologies, Eng. Tanui has worked in several countries in Africa and also in China. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree of Technology in Electrical and Communication Engineering and MBA in International Business.


Vice President for Africa & MENA, International Finance Corporation

Sérgio Pimenta is IFC’s Vice President for the Middle East and Africa. In this capacity, he is in charge of all advisory and investment operations in a region with over 600 staff and a committed portfolio of $20 billion, including mobilization. Previously, Mr. Pimenta was the Director and Global Head of Industry—Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Services at IFC, managing all operations in these sectors worldwide. He led a team of 350 staff working across more than 100 countries to expand the private sector's role in addressing urgent development challenges in areas such as agribusiness, health, education, manufacturing, and commercial services. Mr. Pimenta also served for three years as IFC’s Regional Director responsible for East Asia and the Pacific, based in Hong Kong. Earlier in his career at IFC, he held senior managerial positions in the manufacturing, agribusiness, and services sectors in the Asia Pacific region, the Middle East and North Africa, and Washington, DC. Prior to joining the World Bank Group through its Young Professionals Program in 1996, Mr. Pimenta worked for the Treasury Department of the French Ministry of Finance, as well as for the Banque Nationale de Paris (BNP). A Portuguese and French national, he holds an engineering degree from the École Polytechnique, Paris, and a post-graduate degree from the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, Paris.
